Tax-Free Shopping (VAT Refund)

Non-EU visitors can reclaim VAT — if you do one thing first.
🧾
Do this at the end of your trip, not on arrival — but read it now so you don't miss the ask-before-you-pay step. If you're a non-EU resident, you can reclaim VAT (IVA) on qualifying purchases.
Minimum purchase€70.01 per store, per day (lowered from €154.94 in 2024 — some guides still quote the outdated figure)
Standard VAT rate22% on most goods
Refund you actually getRoughly 11–15% after operator fees
Who qualifiesNon-EU residents, exporting goods unused
How it works
  1. Ask for a Tax-Free Form before paying.
  2. Look for "Tax Free Shopping" signage (Global Blue, Planet, etc.).
  3. Get your customs stamp before checking luggage at the airport — the most common mistake.
  4. Keep items unworn/unused with tags on — customs may inspect.
TILU Tip
Don't wear new shoes or use new perfume before leaving the EU — it can void the claim.
